My first pregnancy was great, almost perfect for the most part. I absolutely loved being pregnant. The first trimester was smooth for the most part, little nausea in the beginning which quickly went away. I was hoping for a similar experience this time around, but boy was I wrong! As soon as I found out I was pregnant, exhaustion hit. Then followed nausea. I had no desire for food, no appetite whatsoever. And if you know me at all, this was so tough because I LOVE food. I LIVE for food. We went to San Francisco a month or so into the pregnancy and I was so miserable because I couldn’t enjoy all the delicious things. Thankfully, I hate vomiting, so I didn’t actually throw up and kept whatever food I could eat down. But nausea was around 24/7 and only a few things would make it a little better. It didn’t really let up until start of week 12, then it subsided a bit. By the time I entered 12 weeks, I was only sporadically nauseous throughout the day, thank God. I don’t wish this upon anyone, I’m glad mine wasn’t as bad as others who actually can’t keep any food down. Anyway, It’s so amazing how different two pregnancies are for me. Even with the bad, I am fully embracing this pregnancy. I do hope second semester is smooth sailing though. 😉
Before I get into weekly updates, I also want to document things Em says about the baby/pregnancy because it’s the funniest/cutest thing!
Things Em says: “My baby sister is burning your heart!” In reference to me talking about heartburns after eating. 😀 And no, we do not know the sex of the baby yet, Em is just team pink and keeps referring to the baby as baby sister.
4 Weeks
Baby’s size: A poppy-seed
Baby’s movement: Nothing yet!
Total weight gain: None
Pregnancy symptoms: Mild cramping, nausea, exhaustion – 24/7
Food love: No appetite
Food hate: Nothing in particular
Sleep: Due to exhaustion, I’ve been going to bed as soon as Em is down and taking naps whenever I can.
Currently living in: Normal non-maternity clothes
3 pros of this week: [1] Positive home pregnancy test. [2] Telling Em she’s going to be a big sister. [3] Telling Steve we are going to have another baby.
3 cons of this week: [1] Being worried about miscarriage. [2] Not being able to share this excitement with others. [3] Not being able to drink alcohol. No judgment zone here. 😛
Looking forward to: Seeing the little nugget at the first prenatal appointment.
5 Weeks – 8 Weeks
Baby’s size: A raspberry at 8 weeks
Baby’s movement: Nada!
Total weight gain: None
Pregnancy symptoms: Nausea is kicking in harder each week, I am nauseous throughout the day. Nothing really helps with nausea. With Em, carbs helped but not this time. Indigestion and constipation. Whenever I eat anything small, I get instant indigestion. It’s awful. I’m also bloated and gassy. Sore/tender breasts, exhaustion, sleepy, frequent urination, mild cramping.
Food love: Orange juice is my first craving
Food hate: Everything except orange juice
Sleep: SO SO SLEEPY! I’m talking wanting to take naps in the middle of the day, everyday!
Currently living in: Still in my normal non-maternity clothes.
3 pros of this week: [1] Em is so so sweet about the baby in my belly! She is definitely loving on him/her all the time by rubbing and kissing my belly. [2] Talking to Steve about what our life is going to be when baby #2 comes. It feels surreal but so exciting to think about being a family of four. [3] Seeing my sister and best friend in SF!
3 cons of this week: [1] Realizing all the food I can’t have like cold cut sandwiches and raw sushi! [2] First prenatal appointment not coming soon enough! [3] Em getting sick after our trip from SF.
Looking forward to: Christmas and family visiting!
9 Weeks – 11 Weeks
Baby’s size: A lime at 11 weeks
Baby’s movement: Nothing yet!
Total weight gain: None
Pregnancy symptoms: Still nauseous with indigestion, round ligament pains are kicking in, constipation, still exhausted, bloated and gassy.
Food love: Chicken salad with crackers, cereal, avocado bagel sandwich, flavored water and lots of fruit.
Food hate: Everything else from above.
Sleep: Random dreams have started and I feel like my sleep now is lighter than usual.
Currently living in: At 11 weeks, I’m still wearing my normal clothes but using a hair-tie to keep the pants together. I need to dig up my belly band in the garage.
3 pros of this week: [1] Having family in town for Christmas. [2] Starting the new year with my loves and my heart feeling so full and blessed to have this baby this year! [3] Seeing my little nugget at our first prenatal appointment!! S/he is sooooo cute!!!
3 cons of this week: [Only one con because it was that awful] Being sick over Christmas. Em got sick first then Steve then I got hit last. It was miserable, I couldn’t take any medicine and so I just rode it out.
Looking forward to: First trimester screening to see how our little nugget is doing!
12 Weeks
[I am at the end of my first trimester!!!]
Baby’s size: A plum
Baby’s movement: The nugget is moving around doing all sorts of flips, but I don’t feel anything.
Total weight gain: -3 lbs. I lost weight from my weigh in at the first appointment. Probably due to not being able to eat much.
Pregnancy symptoms: Nausea is starting to subside. It’s not 24/7 anymore. Breaking out on my face and chest. Exhaustion.
Food love: No new things since previous weeks
Food hate: Nothing in particular
Sleep: Sleep could be better because of weird ass dreams waking me up
Currently living in: normal clothes with the hair-tie trick to keep it buttoned
3 pros of this week: [1] Seeing the nugget again for 12 weeks scan. [2] Genetic testings coming back normal. [3] Nausea getting better.
3 cons of this week: [1] Such bad pictures for 12 weeks sonogram! Em’s 12 weeks sonogram pics were so clear and distinctive! [2] Finding out I lost weight. [3] Endless list of to-dos.
Looking forward to: Entering 2nd trimester (hopefully it’s a good one!) and planning our baby-moon!
