I cannot believe my second trimester ended and I am now in my third trimester. It’s true when they say second pregnancy goes by so much quicker, even during quarantine. ๐ I feel like it was yesterday when I found out we are expecting! Now I have less than three months to go. While I am mentally and physically prepared for baby T’s (we have a name!) arrival, there are still a ton of nesting to-dos on my list. Not to mention, his nursery is not yet ready… ๐ His nursery was our spare bedroom which we used to store all the boxes we didn’t unpack and (a lot) of Steve’s tech things/toys. But we are close to getting it finished! Steve has a grand idea of wainscoting and painting, and I am so excited to see it done!
Second trimester was hands down, so much better than the first trimester which is the case for most people. My nausea went away completely and my regular appetite (and more) came back. Overall, I felt significantly better with more energy. Unfortunately due to the current environment of COVID-19, I spent majority of my second trimester in quarantine. Steve and I started working from home mid-March and kept Em home from preschool as well. It was a huge adjustment trying to work from home, “homeschool” and entertain a 4 year old, oh and also pregnant. But we gotta do what we gotta do, right? We just have to make the most of it and that’s what we are continuing to do until baby T’s arrival. Anyway, while weekly bump photos and pregnancy updates didn’t happen. I did jot down a few things from my second trimester.
Things Em says: “I’m worried about the baby drooling and chewing on my stuff, but I don’t think a baby sister would do that.” She said this before we found out the sex. Clearly, she was still team baby sister. ๐ She now loves her brother, gives him kisses, talks and sings to him all the time. <3
13 Weeks – 14 Weeks
Baby’s size: A peach at 14 weeks
Baby’s movement: Finally feeling flutters! First one was felt at 13 weeks when I was laying down at night.
Total weight gain: Slowly gaining back the weight I lost from first trimester, back to the pre-pregnancy weight.
Pregnancy symptoms: Nausea comes and goes, but mostly gone; exhaustion; frequent urination; discharge; weird dreams; tender breasts; headaches; round ligament pains; breaking out in the face with zits; constant cramping. Cramps were so bad at 14 weeks, I went to see my OB but everything was fine, just needed to drink more fluids.
Food love: Sweet and salty cravings, been eating a lot of spinach salad with apples, feta cheese, nuts, and cherry tomatoes. First late night fast food craving was Culver’s hamburger and first midday craving was Chick-fil-a spicy chicken sandwich.
Food hate: Nothing in particular.
Sleep: Okay, weird dreams are waking me up.
Currently living in: Normal non-maternity clothes, but pants with elastic bands.
Pros of this week: [1] Warmer weather. [2] Quality time spent with family. [3] Finally finding baskets for my living room built-in. I’ve searched FOREVER!
Cons of this week: [1] Feeling under the weather. [2] Lack of motivation to be active/work out. [3] Busy at work.
15 Weeks – 18 Weeks
Baby’s size: Artichoke at 18 weeks.
Baby’s movement: Distinct feelings of baby movements. He is constantly moving!
Total weight gain: 5 lbs.
Pregnancy symptoms: Still some random morning nausea at 15 weeks, but completely gone by 18 weeks; sciatica pain started at 15 weeks, SO EARLY! I didn’t get my first sciatica pain until third trimester with Em, so this is completely new and uncomfortable to say the least; shortness of breath; weird dreams are still present, I dreamt about someone peeing on me one night!; lower back pains; breakouts in the face; feeling major pressure in pelvic region; random Braxton Hicks contractions, also something that came super early than when I was pregnant with Em; sore/fuller breasts; constipation; major headaches; sharp cramps when changing positions quickly.
Food love: Appetite seems to be back to normal, Chick-fil-a is my jam.
Food hate: No aversions thus far.
Sleep: Due to back pains, having horrible sleep. Cannot sleep more than 6 hours and I keep waking up during those 6 hours.
Currently living in: Mixture of non-maternity and maternity clothes.
Pros of this week: [1] Visit from my childhood friend, Kelsey who I haven’t seen in years! [2] Anatomy ultrasound to see the little guy. [3] Finding out the sex!!!! FINALLY! Read this post on how we found out as a family!
19 Weeks – 27 Weeks
Baby’s size: Lettuce at 27 weeks.
Baby’s movement: CONSTANTLY moving. The movements are powerful and hard. I can actually see his kicks and punches in my belly which is so wild to see this early on! Is this what having a boy going to look like? ๐ Steve felt his first kick at 22 weeks and Em felt his kick at 24 weeks! Em was much more clam and her movements were more fluid like, so this is new to me.
Total weight gain: 21 lbs gained at 27 weeks!
Pregnancy symptoms: Dry face. My skin totally changed its composition. I was always combination to oily skin and I started to break out in rash in my face and it was so itchy. Come to find out, it’s because my face was drying out. I changed my skincare which helped with the rash and dryness of my face; sciatica pain in my left leg/hip is no joke. I bought this support belt from Amazon and it’s been a life changer; leg cramps at night; constipation; hemorrhoids; major Braxton Hicks contractions.
Food love: Nothing in particular but just eating everything and anything, not to mention late night snacking. It’s on full force.
Food hate: Nada!
Sleep: Sleep is awful, I keep tossing and turning because I’m a back sleeper and I’m too concerned about unconsciously sleeping on my back. Constant peeing doesn’t help either.
Currently living in: Full on maternity clothes.
Pros of this week: [1] Em’s reaction of feeling baby T for the very first time! [2] WE HAVE A NAME, well first name at least. We need to come up with his middle name. Boy names are hard!
Cons of this week: [1] Canceling our babymoon. [2] Adjusting to quarantine life. It wasn’t pleasant but after two and a half months of quarantine, I think we got it figured out.
Looking forward to: Entering third trimester!
@26 weeks. How I usually feel and look. @26 weeks. When Steve asks me to smile.
